Petra is best experienced in the cool months — October through April.
The light is softer. The stone glows differently. And you can walk for hours without thinking about the heat.
In winter, Petra occasionally sees rain. The canyon fills with mist. The Treasury appears slowly through the grey. Those who've seen it this way say it's unforgettable.
Summer mornings before nine are still manageable — but the midday heat changes everything.

When to visit Jordan

We welcome no more than twelve guests to Petra each month.

This allows the place to remain quiet — for you, and for the place itself.

Petra will be here long after us.
